A head-on crash on Sunday turned fatal




Jamestown, Calif. – One fatality is now reported in a Sunday night frontal crash on the 120 freeway – and alcohol may have played a role.

The CHP released the name of the deceased as Geno J. Gurich, 32, of Copperopolis. They report that at approximately 6:45 p.m., Gurich was driving a 2004 Honda Civic eastbound on the freeway and at a curve crossed by the double yellow lines in oncoming traffic east of Perri Cone Road at high speed . Heading in the opposite direction in a 2021 Mazda CX-5 were Charmin J. Rogers, 34, and passengers, Beverley Jenkins, 41, and three children: a 9-year-old man and two women, 11 and 12 years old. , all of Oakland.

The CHP said Gurich succumbed to his injuries Tuesday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Beverley Jenkins and two of the children were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The CHP relayed that the 12-year-old woman was then airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for further treatment. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this traffic accident, according to CHP officials.
